THE LONG-TERM EFFECT OF THE SHORT-TERM AND TEMPORARY ACTIONS BY THE YOUTH

On April 17th 2019, we were invited by EASA Macedonia to hold a presentation about MELEEM’s projects at the Faculty of Architecture in Skopje. The topic of the presentation was what are we really doing with our small actions in the city and the public space and the impact of the small temporary actions taken by the youth. Following the presentation, we opened a discussion with the students and talked about their experiences, the importance of taking such initiatives and supporting organizations and individuals that do so.

We believe that a public space can not be actualized and revived by only one action, but a series of events and interventions taken by different parties during a relatively longer period of time. We are happy when we see young people engage in different kind of activism to make their cities better. One example is the student dormitory Goce Delcev in Skopje where we organized our first event The Dormitory is Ours in 2013, and where today, there are a lot more activities going on exploiting this quality space.
